Winter is over and spring is finally here! Unlike these unnecessarily cold cities like Moscow, Kazan, St. Petersburg etc., most cities have really settled into the new weather that’s getting even warmer as summer is approaching.
But have you actually wondered how you can get the most fun out of this season — especially by getting the right African vibes around you and connecting with the people and culture around you?
Here a few of our recommendations:
KWIBERRY
On Kwiberry, you can order African food and different products (Ankara tops, beauty products etc.) and get a fresh taste of home. Just go through the site, order whatever you find interesting and get it delivered to you as soon as possible.
If you’re free and you have skills you can monetise, you can quickly list your service on the website and begin to get jobs assigned to you as people get to discover your talent.
AFRICAN FOOD
Like on Kwiberry, there are a lot of Africans around you in different cities that have started African kitchens. Patronise them, discover food from cities other than yours. You can even try out new recipes yourself or just make sure you don’t burn down the kitchen.
Maybe finding time to cook your own food will save you from all the money you spend on McDonalds and co, and help you fight sapa better.
TRAVEL
You know you can just plan a trip to a different city with your friends, book an apartment and chill for a few days. If you’re too busy with school or work, there are public holidays coming up, especially in the first weeks of May. Take advantage of those and start your summer vacations early.
Go to that city you’ve always wanted to visit— Petersburg, Rostov, Sochi etc. and ask about the fun places they have there. Visit the malls and go shopping in that new city, compare prices and try out their restaurants.
EXPERIENCE RUSSIAN ART
There is something beautiful about Russian culture that you can only discover if only you’ll leave your bed and go out to see concerts, art exhibitions, musicals, parades, dramas etc.
If you’re feeling like it, go to a museum and learn about Russian history. Or you can just take a walk in the park and see the budding flowers. (This already sounds like some ‘unAfrican’ thing to do, but you might actually find it interesting). ..
ATTEND EASTER SERVICES
Many churches/ religious organisations will start to organise programmes for the Christian holidays. Visit them if you’re already not part- you’ll get to meet a lot of people and you get an opportunity to be part of a new community with time.
ORGANISE GET TOGETHER WITH FRIENDS
Organise outdoor indoor activities (for example at the beach) with a few friends around- play games, start debates, order in (or out), cook your own food or make some ‘shashlik’. You can even rent bicycles and organise riding competitions.
Don’t just be sitting at home watching Netflix everyday. It’s not good for your health🌚.
EXERCISE
Well, well… We know you’re really concerned about that summer body so what better time to get it than now. One option will be to dedicate some money for a gym subscription, but if you’re mincing money, taking morning jogs or using YouTube for home workouts are still valid options.
This is your cue to have fun this spring and check the weather forecast before going out cause who knows when it’ll rain…
