Yay! Congratulations on your JAPA achievement. Your excitement has led you here and you’re warmly welcome.
Planning for trips and events can be a very daunting chore.
If you are someone who does not like stress and just want to be taken care of, having a concise checklist will definitely help.
You don’t want to go through that stress of forgetting something important, do you?
Here are few things you might want to put in your luggage before you fly to Russia:
Hand luggage/ backpack
- Passport, tickets and other travelling documents.
- Your phone and your charger (obviously, duh): Trust me, you do not want to be that person that forgets theirs.
- Head phones/ ear buds: Whichever one you want to bring along, just make sure you remember to take it, so that you can enjoy some music or movies while you are high up in the sky.
- Prescribed drugs (if you are on any): You definitely do not want to gamble with your health by not bringing your drugs along.
- Recommended glasses and contact lens. If you are four-eyed, you just can’t afford to miss out on seeing your environment or at least signs and instructions (the struggle is real).
- Toiletries: Toothbrush, soap, handkerchief, personal stuff e.t.c.
- Extra clothes or food that couldn’t fit into your main luggage.
Main/checked luggage
I know you’re excited, but before you get nostalgic with packing all the things you own, just calm down.
You need to find out the required luggage weight before you can board a plane, to avoid tossing things out of your luggage at the airport.
Here are our own essentials:
1. Documents, academic certificates e.t.c.
2. Books and materials: If you must bring these, please don’t bring a whole library, because you will be able to buy stationary once you get settled in.
3. FOOD: You see how food is bold? That is how bold you should be when packing food items.
You will miss and crave your local food so much that you will wish you brought extra food.
Yes, it will eventually finish but you still want to have it even if it’s only for a few months.
Please resist the urge to pack noodles, pasta, vegetable oil, fruits and snacks because you will be able to get those in Russia. Make sure you bring:
- Garri (if you’re a lover of good things)
- Beans
- Dried pepper (if you prefer spicy dishes like our Yoruba people)
- Dried fish
- Soup materials and local spices
4. A few clothes and one or two shoes, under wears.
Yes, we are specific because you need that space to pack more food, so if you have to sacrifice old clothes, please do.
You will be able to buy clothes when you get to Russia, but those food items can be scarce and expensive.
5. Cold-resistant clothing (especially if you’ll arrive during winter): Don’t outdo yourself feeling like some Eskimo.
There’s no need to carry 10 jackets, 12socks and 25 head warmers. Just take one or two jackets and you’ll be fine for the first few days.
6. Hair products: Don’t get too comfortable and forget your beloved hair products. Carry everything you use for your hair— hair creams, relaxers, gel, hair extensions and so on.
Finally, please put something unique on your luggage to help you identify it when you alight. We don’t want to hear that all the garri and beans you struggled to pack developed wings and flew away.
There you have it. We hope things go according to plan for you. Make sure you have fun and have a beautiful trip to Russia.
Bon voyage!
