I always tell my friends how I don’t like the tag ‘foreigner’ here in Russia. It always feels like I am missing out on something, like I don’t belong here and this constantly reminds me of the fact that I am not home. On the other hand, it spurs me to work hard and stop at nothing to achieve my goals, to fight against all odds.
At first anytime someone mentioned иностранцы when referring to my friends and me, It just always felt weird. But with time I guess I’ve gotten used to it and I’ve even realised there are seemingly little perks of being a foreigner, if you know what I mean.
In light of all these, I am always reminded that there is no place like home. I try to keep ties with my people back home because no matter how successful I become, I am constantly reminded of my roots.
Family should be dear to everyone. Consistent communication with them keeps me sane. It reminds me that although I carry the foreigner tag here I have a source. I appreciate my family members a lot and I truly value them even though we are miles apart.
Family is key in building you. So even when you become great in life, never forget your people. I sincerely find it strange and questionable when people want nothing to do with their family.
Now when it comes to associating with and giving to family members, there are usually two extremes, the ones that give like they’re Father Christmas and the ones that don’t give at all.
I understand that people grew up differently and some were not treated right by their family. All the same, I believe people must give to their families, but with caution. If not, you’ll go broke trying. When giving, give only what you can afford to do away with at the time.
