JOBS YOU CAN DO AS A FOREIGNER IN RUSSIA

Are you an African in Russia looking for job opportunities to work and earn money legally?

More and more Africans are coming into Russia and there’s just a growing need for high-income jobs to be able to cater for themselves and their family members.

Here are some more job opportunities for you: 

  1. English Nanny: This job is quite popular among foreigners. There are lots of rich Russian families looking for a stay-in native speaker to care for their kids.The pay for this kind of job can be really good. It can range between 200,000 – 400,000 Rubles. You might get accommodation in the family’s house and be able to go with them on their different trips abroad.

This job is usually very hard to get as their first choice will be Americans, Brits, Canadians etc. However, if you are a Nigerian who speaks flawless English and have some experience in this sphere, why not try? To secure this kind of Job, most times you have to be recommended. You also need a university degree with valid immigration documents.

  1. Call Centre/ Customer Support Agent: As the world goes global, this type of job has gained popularity in Russia, especially in Moscow. As a call center agent, your job is to call English speaking people (usually in North America) and sell a service to them or help them resolve their complaints.This job is usually done in the night due to time zone difference and can be a bit challenging.

Salary, however, ranges from 40,000 Rubles – 60,000 Rubles per month, and can get even higher if you get promoted to become a supervisor. Most Indians, Pakistanis, Ghanians as well as Nigerians do this job in Moscow. Note that you don’t work very hard, you can be fired very easily as there is usually no legal contract. To get this kind of job, you can visit hh.ru, Moscow Times career center, expat jobs, etc.

  1. Luxury Taxi Driver: Although working as a taxi driver might not be as lucrative as before, the niche of luxury/business class taxi is an interesting twist to it. All you need is to have a luxury car (Mercedes, BMW…) and you can be guaranteed a reasonable daily income. And the barrier to register for this kind of job is usually low.

Know a bit of Russian, have a valid driver’s license and register on the most popular ride hailing platforms like Yandex taxi and start making money: up to 120,000 rubles a month depending on how many hours you put in.

Another advantage of this job is that you’ll often drive business class and wealthy people, so you might even earn some extra money on tips or become a regular driver for any of your clients if you are amiable.

  1. International Business Analyst: There are lots of small and medium size companies in Russia looking for international business analysts with a command of a foreign language to help them enter into bigger international markets. The barrier to entry is usually high because you must be highly skilled to get in.

Minimum requirement is a bachelor’s degree. An MBA will be an added advantage. You also need valid immigration documents. Salaries can start from 100,000 rubles. With international experience and certificates, it can even get higher. You can get these kinds of jobs by networking actively, going to expat events, and also using sites like superjob.ru, hh.ru, etc.

  1. Specialist IT jobs: Tech has continued to grow as a viable career path for anyone interested and willing to put in the required work. In fact, more and more people with or without a tech-related degree are finding opportunities to build a whole career in tech.

You can decide to build on your related degree or learn high-demand tech skills and gain certification on your own- software developers, data scientists, research engineers, product managers.

Either way, there is a huge demand for tech specialists right now in Russian companies (Yandex, Sber, Tinkoff, Ozon etc.) and you do have a chance if you network with the right people and are adequately qualified.

Simply, get on the sites of these companies and search for the available vacancies. And with the new laws, the employment process has become even more simplified with other benefits like permanent residence permits for the individual and their family.
