HOW TO ANSWER PEOPLE THAT ASK WHY YOU ARE SINGLE

This year has not been easy for the singles. It’s like this year they said ‘last to marry is a fool’ because the amount of proposals and marriages since the beginning of this year has been alarming’.

With all the love in the air, for sure, aunties, uncles and just about anyone might start poking their noses and ask why you’re single. Don’t worry, we already have sweet responses for them. Disclaimer: whatever happens to you after using these lines is on you sha. Let’s jump into it.

‘What makes you think I am single?’– That’s it! Confuse the confronter, whoever is asking at this point will probably be taken aback or confused. Make sure to keep a straight face while you are at it, so they will learn to mind their business sooner or later.

‘I don’t have the time nor the money’–  Let’s face it: relationships require time and energy. You can say, “Honestly, relationships take a lot of strength and money, both of which I currently lack.” This response not only shows your priorities but also subtly hints that you’re not in a rush to jump into something that requires more than you can give right now.

‘Why are you still married?’– Yep, this is good for those people who have chosen to stay out of their own troubles but sit comfortably in other people’s business. Remind them that everyone has their script and you are just acting out yours.

‘I am still figuring things out’– For the polite people amongst us who don’t want to offend a potential destiny helper, this statement is perfect. It is light and keeps the person asking the question at ease, maybe for a while ha.

‘Could you refrain from asking me such a question?’– A curt way to say mind your own business. And almost immediately, you’ll see them packing their things and leaving. You have set your boundaries without moving a finger. Such a person will think twice before asking you questions next time.

‘Why would I rush into something that isn’t right for me?’– This response shows maturity and thoughtfulness, letting people know that you value quality over quantity when it comes to relationships; and that you’re not going to jump into a relationship just because the number of proposals in the world has reached a record high.

‘Freedom is sweet, you should try it’– Your family members will probably hold a family meeting about you after this particular response.

Answering questions on your relationship status can be very uncomfortable or even awkward. With these witty responses, you can easily set your boundaries. So next time someone asks why you’re single, remember to answer them accordingly.

Have a lovely week ahead.
