VALENTINE SPECIAL: DO YOU LOVE YOURSELF?

Make I no lie…

As a single but fine babe this valentine was quite event-less. Nothing, I mean nothing reach my side. Everywhere just dryyyy. Maybe because I had a few guys in my corner and I was kinda hoping they would surprise me. Well, we live to love another day…

I was lazily scrolling through social media that Valentine night and a thought just crossed my mind. If I had the money and the resources, why did I have to wait for someone somewhere to get me a gift when I can do it myself. Yes, I know it feels nice to be taken care of but sometimes you have to be your own caretaker.

I realised that I cannot always depend on people for my happiness. Sometimes, you actually just have to make it happen yourself. This Valentine’s, I have come to move the motion of self- love.

Stay with me.

This Valentine’s Day that just went by, everywhere was filled with love and affection. Many people focus on romantic relationships but it is also important to take a moment to reflect on one of the most important relationships in our lives—the one we have with ourselves.

And there is actually so much emphasis on self-love, self-care and the likes in this age but how many people actually understand and practice this?

Self-love is simply appreciating, accepting and respecting yourself– having that understanding that you are worth something. I’m not talking about being comfortable with character flaws and being unwilling to change, but rather having a positive mentality about yourself.

Self-love and self-respect reflects in all areas of your life:

  1. In the boundaries you set with others- Have you met people that seem to allow any and everything? They don’t have any boundaries and you can just tell that everything goes with them. This type of character is a show of the lack of self-respect.

  2. In the choices you make regarding your time and energy- What takes up most of your time? What do you spend your energy and resources on? All these reflect whether you love and respect yourself.

  3. In the spaces you find yourself and the people you relate with- The people you roll with and the places you can or cannot go say a lot about how you see yourself and whether you even value yourself.

  4. In what you do for yourself- Some people are so hard on themselves. They set high standards and beat themselves up whenever they don’t meet those goals. Some never think of rewarding themselves even with the money they earn.

Self-love creates a ripple effect, influencing not just how you treat yourself but also how you engage with the world around you. When you respect your own person– your needs and values, you can then attract good relationships and experiences.

Practicing this will inevitably help create a life that reflects your worth and values, leading to fulfilment and happiness in all areas of your life.

Even in this season of love, while you may be celebrating love with others, don’t forget to celebrate the most important relationship in your life—your relationship with yourself.

So, do you really love yourself? Abi you’re still waiting for someone to come and gift or love you?
