Every year on March 8, women are celebrated to observe what has become one of the most popular celebrations especially in Russia. This event draws everyone’s attention to remember and recognise the accomplishments and rights as well as the difficulties women face as members of modern society.
Last year, women were encouraged to “ChooseToChallenge gender stereotypes and biases in society. This year, the theme for the IWD is #BreakTheBias and we are told, “Knowing that bias exists is not enough, action is needed to level the playing field.”
“The 2022 UN theme for International Women’s Day is ‘Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, looking to highlight the contribution of women and girls around the globe, who participate in their communities … to build a more sustainable future for all.’”
Women all over the world face several deliberate and unconscious biases in society- in families and marriages, at work, in different industries such as STEM, healthcare, higher education and law.
We encourage women to embrace their differences and go after their aspirations irrespective of these biases and for everyone to cooperate to create a healthy environment to support women’s roles.
So choose to pamper the women in your life today. Buy them food, gifts and flowers and send money. Send them an encouraging message and remind them that they can achieve all they dream about.
