“Do you believe in love or money?” – This one is a classic, and it’s a great way to start the conversation. If your partner is all about love, then you know that money won’t be an issue. But if they’re all about the money, well, you might want to think twice before taking things to the next level.

“What’s your favorite money-saving tip?” – This is a great question to ask if you’re looking for someone who’s financially savvy. And even if they’re not, it’s always fun to hear about the creative ways that people save money.

“Do you believe in spending money on experiences or things?” – This is a good question to ask if you’re looking for someone who values experiences over material possessions. If your partner is all about living in the moment and enjoying life to the fullest, then you know you’re in good hands.

“What’s your monthly budget like?” – This is a great question to get a sense of your partner’s spending habits and financial goals. Do they have a strict budget, or do they live a more relaxed lifestyle? Knowing this can help you determine if your financial goals are aligned.

“How do you feel about debt?” – Debt can be a controversial topic, so it’s important to know where your partner stands on this issue. Do they believe in living debt-free, or are they okay with carrying some debt as long as it’s manageable?

“How do you handle money disagreements?” – Money disagreements can happen in any relationship, so it’s important to know how your partner handles these situations. What’s the worst financial mistake you’ve made? What did you learn?- We all make mistakes and even in our finances, it’s okay to ask your partner if they have ever made any financial decisions that did not turn out well, ask them what they learned and how they recovered from that situation, it would benefit you and even them in the case that something similar appears in the future.

Do you think it’s appropriate to combine finances in a relationship?- A very important question to ask before committing to anything, is your partner open to both of you pooling resources together or they are more likely to have a separate account? If you agree to combine your finances, the question of when is equally important.

And the good news is, by asking these questions in a fun and lighthearted way, you can start the conversation without any pressure or awkwardness. So go ahead, ask your (potential) partner these money questions, and see where the conversation takes you. Happy Valentine’s Day in advance!
