DECEMBER WILL COME AND GO (‘detty’ doings and more)

Yooo, it’s the end of the year. We can all agree that 2024 flew by fast and the highlight of December is the festivities on every side, the thanksgiving celebrations, parties and get-togethers. As your favorite online padi, I am here to remind you that Detty December should not be equal to debt (gives side eye to Moscow big boys and girls).

Uncle and aunty enjoyment minister, Detty December should not leave you penniless. They say a word is enough for the wise but some people need 100 words before they can hear well. So I will repeat it for the people at the back: don’t go broke trying to live life this December.

There’s celebration and festivity in the air (just wear nose masks o). You find people spending money and caught up in the cycle of parte after parte. Everywhere you go, you are just encouraged to spend money- money that you don’t even have or you have been saving.

At the end of the year, people’s life savings are usually sacrificed on the altar of enjoyment and by the next year they end up with regrets and wishes of how they could have spent better.

One common factor that is almost always present during the festive season is the demand from your surroundings. There’s an unspoken pressure to do something new, travel, buy the best things, show off and most times, this doesn’t end well.

We have come to tell you to chill and strategise, because when your eyes start to see things, hmm just dey play…

We know some people are already planning and strategizing how to run this December funds. E-solutions is here for you as always and we don’t want you to have regrets in the new year so we are giving you the following tips on how to make sure this Detty December doesn’t leave you dirty.

1. Have a budget (or at least a list of needs)- We are not against having a good time in December. Please enjoy yourself but on a budget. You just have to be strict with your boundaries so that any enjoyment or party wey don pass your budget will have to wait till next year. The best time to start budgeting is now before the invitation to parties starts flooding in and the bills start overlapping. Plan and plan, separate your Detty December money from your life savings to avoid temptations.

2. Don’t give in to pressure- Yeah, the pressure is going to get wesser, and so many things you see on social media and around you will make you feel like you are not living life, but nah! You should not be pressured into spending money you don’t have or worse, going to borrow (because they will still disgrace you). Stick to managing what you have and don’t let anyone pressure you. Don’t seek validation from people on social media, they will not be there when the going gets tough. We don talk our own.

3. Abeg, just say No and stick to it- Detty December is a major avenue for some of these businesses to drain you of money but no panic. They know it’s the festive season and there will be juicy deals and amazing prices around. While it is good to indulge in some of these, learn to say no to the unnecessary ones. Open your eyes and see the subtle marketing strategies that may seem irresistible at the moment. If not, you might find yourself shouting that January is too long. If you know you know…

4. Banish every thought that you only live once- Ehn it’s true sha! But by the time sapa holds you by the neck, you will know that you don’t only live now and that there is plenty of time ahead. Don’t squander your last cash and deceive yourself into thinking that life is only meant to be enjoyed. Quite right, life is meant to be savoured but it doesn’t give you the liberty to spend all your year savings in one weekend, except if you have a money tree in your backyard.

5. Remember the shege you saw last January- Some people have memory loss sha, because true true, you no suppose forget wetin your eyes see that last time. Yes, remembering past shege has a way of making you rethink your choices. Please apply that method this December, remember how after Detty December you were left dry and you had to do some forced fasting in Q1. To avoid a repeat of that situation, hold yourself and spend wisely.

In this Detty December period, one extra tip for you– promote your business or your brand and make the right connections with people as you go to events and parties. Maximise the network around you and don’t get carried away by the festive season. Most importantly, start planning for the next year so that it doesn’t catch you by surprise.

We wish you a beautiful December. Remember, E-Solutions always dey for you!
