…a snippet from the Guidetrybe course for Africans in Russia.
As a student in my penultimate year, the question of what to do after graduation has recently been popping up in my mind and even in conversations. It’s almost like a constant bell ringing out this question. I recently took a course called Career Planning for African Students in Russia by Guidetryb and I must say it has helped me a lot. It’s tailored for African students who are about to graduate or studying in Russia.
You won’t find many resources talking about pathways to tread upon completion of your studies here. I guess that is the reason why this particular course is so dear to my heart. It has opened my eyes to many things and areas I did not pay attention to earlier.
One of such areas is the importance of certifications and online courses. This particular subheading is under module 3, lesson number one of the course, (yes, I know the exact location), but I really advise you to go through the whole course.
First and foremost, getting certifications and participating in online courses is a way to actively prepare before graduation. It is not limited to just graduates alone, whether you are in your first or final year, you can always take online courses and get both the knowledge and the certificates.
The notion that your undergraduate years are just for vibes and cruise is totally untrue. In fact, your undergraduate years are your formative years. This is the time where you begin to think about what you want to do going forward. It is the time to take online and in-person courses, attend forums and seminars, and participate in olympiads. Just do things that will add value to yourself and spice up your CV, you get the gist?
Aside from the knowledge you get from these courses, it gives you a competitive edge when it is time to apply for jobs, scholarships or admissions. No matter the course you are studying or your niche, there is always a platform where you can find courses that are relevant to you.
Platforms like Coursera, Udemy, Kaggle, Stepik, Course Central, LinkedIn and Datacamp are places where you can get free and paid courses for whichever area you are interested in.
Bear in mind that the world is technologically advancing rapidly, and most sectors are gradually incorporating tech into their operations. It is important to keep up with these trends by learning about these relevant technology tools to keep yourself informed and relevant. It goes without saying that irrespective of what you are studying in today’s world, you need to have at least one tech skill.
So, for all our students, in all your cruising and enjoyment, don’t wait for final year before you start making plans, the time to start is now. There’s so much packed into the course that will be beneficial to you. If, like me, you were confused or unsure about which direction to go after graduation, take this course as a stepping stone.
