“People who say school is a waste of time/money are usually failures at their current stage in life.
I’m sick and tired of hearing people complain about how useless school is, or how expensive college is and how people don’t have high paying jobs even though they went to college.Look around, almost everyone who makes above average money went to university and has at least one degree, maybe even two or three. H*ll, even people who make average money went to college.
Don’t mention the billionaire or wiz kid who skipped school to go into coding, or zuckerberg who dropped out of harvard to start facebook. For every one person who became successful, there are probably literal thousands or tens of thousands who failed miserably without higher education.
Let’s face it, You are basically what you made of your past. If you skipped college/uni for whatever reason, chances are you don’t have a high paying job. If you picked a non-marketable major in college/uni, changes are you don’t have a high paying job. If you are making decent money and wonder why you can’t climb the corporate ladder, then chances are either you’re shit at what you do, are working for a boss that values ass-kissers, or you need a second degree to move up.
Am I saying that school is amazing and everyone needs to go because you’ll have life changing knowledge taught to you from professors who are all Nobel prize winners? No, but it’s an essential part of life for the very large majority of people and anyone who complains about it is usually in a shit situation. Coincidence? I think not.”
Now the passage above is an excerpt from Reddit. Do you even know what Reddit is?
But really though, you might think paying for courses or paying to learn a skill or even attending school is a waste of money but in the future you will realise it is a valuable investment.
Some people in this age and time still treat education and learning as if it is some sort of government imposed policy. Before anything and anyone, whatever education or skill you get from school is first of all a benefit to you then to others.
The sad part of not getting the proper skills you need is that you might not even realise the opportunities you have missed. There’s a saying that goes, ‘The price of ignorance is way more than the price we would have paid to acquire knowledge.’
The above quote is, of course, not referring to the monetary value but rather the regret and “Had I known…” that comes when you are faced with an opportunity but you lack the required knowledge and skills required to fill that position.
Learn a skill. Go to school if you have the opportunity. Take that online course or physical lessons. All this is to improve and to add value to yourself so that when the time comes you have what it takes to fulfil what is required of you.
People might think education or paying for courses is a waste of resources or time but the immense value it adds to you cannot be overstated.
So whenever you have the opportunity to learn, take it seriously. You might not know when that knowledge will become useful for you. In a world with so much competition and with the technological advancement we have now, what gives you an edge is the value you have and can offer to people.
The present cost of learning pales in comparison to the future benefits a person gets. Don’t let anyone water down the importance of education to you, it is very key in shaping how a person thinks and who they become.
Not learning the right thing at the proper time often leads to regrets, a person begins to wonder what could have been if they followed that path.
So make your choice every morning you wake up, what do you decide to do. To take the opportunities you have right now or to wait for some imaginary miracle in the future? The ball is in your court.
